Jesus as High Priest

Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we have direct access to God that people before Him only dreamed of — no priest, parent, or spouse needs to go to God on our behalf. Effective prayer means approaching boldly, trusting not our own worthiness but Jesus' finished sacrifice, praying in the authority of His name, and resting in God's character even when the answer isn't the one we hoped for.
