Worship Weekend - How We Respond | Daniel Goulding | Echoes Curch · Rewind

Big Idea

Before revival can reach the nation, it must start with repentance in the church, followed by fighting the real spiritual enemy through worship and prayer, not politics.

In the face of the evil and division we're seeing in our country, Pastor Daniel reminds us that revival is coming, but it begins with God's people humbling themselves and repenting, not with fixing the nation's politics. Once we repent, we're called to fight our real enemy, spiritual darkness, with the weapons God has given us: worship and prayer.

Key points

1
1We're living through a moment that feels like an unveiling of evil, and the church has to respond somehow.
Pastor Daniel names recent events, a woman murdered on a train, school shootings, 9/11, and the murder of Charlie Kirk after he spoke about his beliefs, as evidence of evil surfacing in ways he says he's never seen in his lifetime. He frames the question facing believers as simply: what do we do, how do we respond.
2
2Repentance in the church, not the nation, is what has historically preceded revival.
Working from 2 Chronicles 7:14, Pastor Daniel points out the verse is addressed to God's people, not the world. He argues that every great spiritual awakening in the nation's history was preceded by repentance inside the church first, and that we often wrongly look outward for the nation to repent when it has to start with us and the anger, division, and hatred in our own hearts.
3
3After repentance, God's people are called to fight, but with spiritual, not worldly, weapons.
He turns to 2 Corinthians 10:4 to show that our weapons are not of this world but have divine power to demolish strongholds. He clarifies the fight isn't Republicans versus Democrats or conservatives versus progressives, it's against a spiritual enemy, and worship is one of the primary weapons we've been given.
4
4Real change comes from a surrendered life, not from policy or political engagement.
Pastor Daniel notes that Jesus only addressed government policy once, on taxes, telling people simply to pay them, and did not build His mission around changing laws. He says while Christians should stay engaged, revival won't come through policy but through running after God fully.

Application

Pastor Daniel frames the response to national turmoil as two moves: repent first, then fight, but fight with worship, not weapons of this world.

Repent of what's in your own heart
Before looking at what the nation needs to change, ask God to show you the division, hatred, or anger you've been carrying and let Him deal with it.
Fight through worship, not social media
Recognize that singing and worship are spiritual warfare; engage the real, spiritual enemy through worship and prayer rather than online arguments over politics.
Surrender your whole life to God
Rather than pinning hope on policy or political sides, run after God with everything, giving Him every part of your heart this week.
Stay engaged as a citizen, but don't put your hope there
Pastor Daniel affirms Christians should still be responsibly engaged in society, while trusting that revival, not policy, is what actually heals the land.

Day 1

Pastor Daniel opened with a promise so familiar we can rush past it: "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land." Notice who God addresses. Not the nation at large. Not the people we disagree with. His people — the ones called by His name. That's us. When evil escalates and the news unsettles us, our instinct is to look outward, to assign blame, to demand the culture change first. But the sermon pressed a quieter, harder truth: revival begins in the church, and the church begins with you and me. This isn't a political strategy or a slogan. It's a posture of the heart. Before God promises healing, He calls His people to humble themselves. That word "humble" lands differently when we realize it's aimed at us, not them. This week, let's resist the urge to fix everyone else and start where God starts — at home, in our own hearts. The land's healing has a starting line, and it runs right through the people who bear His name.

For reflection

Where have I been waiting for the culture to change before I'm willing to let God change me?

Pray

Pray for a humble, teachable heart that's willing to let God start the work in you rather than in everyone else.

When the news feels heavy and the nation feels uncertain, it's easy to look everywhere but the mirror for what needs to change. This message turns our attention somewhere surprising — to the church, and to God's people, as the place revival begins.

Discussion questions

1
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the promise of healing is addressed to "My people who are called by My name." What do we notice about who God speaks to here, and why might that order matter?
2
The verse names four actions — humbling ourselves, praying, seeking God's face, and turning from our wicked ways. How would you describe what each of those actually looks like in the life of a church?
3
Pastor Daniel invited us to ask the Holy Spirit to search our hearts for things like division, hatred, and anger rather than pointing first at the culture. Why might it be harder for people to start with their own hearts than with the world's problems?
4
Paul says our weapons "are not the weapons of the world" but have divine power to demolish strongholds. What does this passage suggest the difference is between fighting in worldly ways and fighting in spiritual ones?
5
The message described worship as warfare — a real spiritual battle, not just a ritual. How might seeing worship that way change the way we approach gathering together to worship?
6
Pastor Daniel suggested that the greatest response to evil is not revenge or outrage but pursuing revival through surrender to God. How might this reshape the way we, as God's people, respond when we see evil and injustice around us?

Pray together

Ask God to begin His work of revival in His people — that He would search our hearts, soften us toward one another, and teach us to fight through worship, prayer, and wholehearted surrender to Jesus.
